Custom reports were cumbersome to create and required you to save a report before you could see the data it contained. BambooHR offered a set of standard reports that were okay for general reporting use cases, but ultimately were just too inflexible. This caused customers to need to export their data to CSV, import it into another tool like Excel where they would need to use VLOOKUPs to join data sets together, create data visualizations, and do analysis.
Reorganizing reports
Reports can be organized into folders instead of whether they are a custom or standard report. Some folders would be there by default, and you can add custom folders for any other way you might want to organize and share reports.
More flexibility through data views
Originally a custom report could only contain a single table, and you had to configure which fields you wanted to include and save it before you could see the data. We switched that to a real-time preview so you can see the data as you configure the output.
We also added the ability to add multiple data views to a report. So if you wanted, your report could be a single data view, or it could contain multiple data views you could easily add, remove, re-order, and resize to get exactly the report you need.
